Today, the Plymouth City Council took an important step in affirming the values that make our community strong. By issuing the Civic Pledge for a Stronger Minnesota, we are sending a clear message: Plymouth stands for respect, dialogue, and democracy.

This proclamation matters because it reflects who we are and what we aspire to be as neighbors and as leaders. In a time when division can feel overwhelming, we chose to confront it not with silence or hostility, but with hope, honesty, and shared responsibility.

Here’s why I’m proud to have supported this proclamation:

  • It prioritizes wellbeing and respect. Our city values the dignity of every community member and recognizes that mutual respect is the foundation of civic life.

  • It rejects political violence and harmful rhetoric. We stand firmly against any language or actions that incite division or harm.

  • It commits us to dialogue and common ground. Democracy thrives when we engage peacefully, listen deeply, and work in good faith to resolve differences.

  • It strengthens our shared purpose. By embracing trust and civility, we reinforce the bonds that make Plymouth—and Minnesota—stronger.

This isn’t just a statement on paper; it’s a call to action. I encourage every resident to join us in living out these values in daily life. Together, we can build a community where hope and honesty guide our conversations, and where shared responsibility shapes our future.

Thank you to my fellow council members for standing united in this commitment. Let’s continue the hard but necessary work of finding common ground and leading with integrity.
